Victoria Skarlatou’s first solo exhibition, and also the first retrospective of her work, will be presented at the City of Athens Art Gallery from 22 October to 22 November 2026. Entitled Between Heaven and Earth, the exhibition is supported by the City of Athens Culture, Sports and Youth Organization (OPANDA).
After more than sixty years of continuous artistic creation, Victoria Skarlatou’s work is presented publicly for the first time as a unified artistic universe.
Bringing together sixty-one works from the 1960s to the present day, the exhibition traces the evolution of a thoroughly personal visual language that moves between everyday experience, memory, symbolism, and metaphysical inquiry.
Curated by visual artist and researcher Kosmas Nikolaou, the exhibition is the result of an extensive process of recording, archiving and documentation encompassing approximately 180 works, alongside drawings, notes, and the artist’s oral histories. The research was undertaken within the framework of the Office for Archival Development, an artistic and curatorial initiative dedicated to bringing archives and collections that have remained out of public view to wider attention.
She was born in 1947 in Volos and she painted since she was little. Her mother, Chrysi, also painted and appreciated Victoria's love for drawing. In 1970 she married Michalis Skarlatos, who supported her tendency to paint, which is when the systematic production of her work began, which continues to this day. The largest volume of her painting work was produced while her son was young, the rhythm was interrupted during his school years, it resumed as he approached adulthood and since then it has continued at a steady pace.
In that interim, in 1983, she began writing. First poetry and later short stories and plays. In 2025, she published her three books Poems/Victoria Skarlatou, Theatrical/Victoria Skarlatou and Short Stories/Victoria Skarlatou, which are a compilation of her writing.
Victoria's works adorn their homes in Athens and Pelion, as well as the home of her son Alexis in Amsterdam. Many of her works also belong to private collections.

His work has been presented in solo exhibitions including Radio Free Europe at the Petite Galerie, Cité internationale des arts (Paris, 2025), Mental Radio at D.O.C. Paris (2019), Choir and Manoeuvre at Blitz Residency and Villa Bologna (Malta, 2018), Sojourning at Rebecca Camhi Gallery (Athens, 2016), the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Public Humanities Initiative Commission (Athens, 2023), and Horror Vacui (Athens, 2026). Since 2012, he has been the co-founder and co-director of 3 137, one of Greece's longest-running artist-run initiatives, developing exhibitions, public programmes, publications and international collaborations while fostering exchange between artists, curators and institutions. Alongside his artistic practice, he has curated editorial and publishing projects focusing on contemporary Greek art and underrepresented art histories, while his collaborative work consistently explores collective authorship, knowledge-sharing and experimental organisational models as artistic methodologies.
His projects operate as open narrative systems in which documents, hypotheses and memory coexist, proposing alternative ways of understanding history, contemporary experience and the mechanisms through which knowledge, value and collective imaginaries are produced.
